The pattern is always the same…we get sick, we go to the doctor, we get a prescription. Do we ever ask ourselves if there are other alternatives? Medications not only can be pricey, they have side effects that often cause another medication need.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the kind of person that will lay in bed with a massive infection, refusing to take medications. If it comes down to it, I will take prescription medications…obviously, I’m diabetic. Yet I can’t help but wonder, are we so dependent on meds that we overlook actually solving the problem, or using natural, much healthier forms of healing?
Alternative Medicine Clinics
I’ve been doing my research on alternative medicine clinics, such as Progressive Medical Center. Here, real doctors do real exams, but first dig to see what may be causing an ailment, before attempting treatment with chemical derived meds. For example, a large part of our immune system is in a part of the gut, where a delicate balance of good bacteria exist. Our way of eating, and many diabetic medications, can throw off this balance, resulting in sickness. Progressive checks things like this first, and if a problem is discovered, natural measures are used to treat the issue.
Our Food Can Heal or Destroy
Every time you load up your grocery cart, or pile food on your plate, you have an opportunity to nourish your body, or cause it to deteriorate. Honey is full of enzymes and nutrients, it fights infections and prevents cancer. Refined table sugar accelerates cancer cells and feeds bad bacteria…catch my drift?
Foods can be more effective than medication, and you can skip out on nasty side effects. Garlic is a natural antibiotic, it’s delicious and there aren’t usually side effects. Antibiotic pills kill all bacteria in its path, and can cause some severe gastric problems. If bacteria isn’t killed off by the pill, it may become resistant, causing infections with superpowers. I’m not suggesting to go against doctors orders, but if we incorporated more garlic, and rid the crap from our diets, we may never develop severe infections in the first place.
What to Add and What to Get Rid Of
Get rid of processed foods, period. Nothing good will come from them. They are chemical, toxin filled foods that hardly ever provide significant nutrition. If you don’t understand the ingredients, don’t buy it.
Fill your diet with a wide range of fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, whole grains, lean proteins and legumes. Avoid GMO and nonorganic foods.
Start your own garden. Invest in a Vegtrug from Gardener’s Supply. The greenhouse cover that you can buy to go with the mini raised garden allows you to grow fresh produce longer and prevents pests from accessing your crops. Nature Hills Nursery offers an assortment of edible bushes and trees that allow you to access delicious, healthful fruit right from your backyard. Gardening is great exercise, so that’s another bonus.
Again, don’t flush all of your pills down the toilet. Just start incorporating more superfoods into your diet and see if things change. Lastly, if you are suffering from an illness, consider going the alternative route first. However be very selective of where you go. Progressive Medical Center is a great blue print of a top of the line facility. We need to find a good balance between natural care and medication.
